Interstim therapy represents a new technical advance in the management of urinary incontinence (leakage). This technology was developed by Medtronic Corporation and has been utilized in our practice for over three years.
Interstim therapy is used for controlling urinary incontinence in patients who have failed treatment by more conservative means. It is most helpful for patients with chronic urgency, frequency, and urgency incontinence.
Interstim therapy is an outpatient treatment which can be performed with minimal invasion and minimal recovery. This provides a significant addition to our ability to treat patients who have difficulty with urinary leakage. Many patients who are chronically wet and use pads are unaware that newer therapies are available which can help them.
